Meet Your Hosts

Janell Peterson
WestWind Creative
Janell has spent almost 20 years planning events and . . . let’s just say quite a few more crafting. Most recently, she combined her talents and passions into WestWind Creative. She wants retreat participants to experience the magic that happens when you spend time in a relaxing atmosphere that engages your creative spirit.

Jane Hosey Stern
Jane is the creator, artist and owner of Junque Drawer Studio and the One Oh One venue. After 38 years as a teacher & counselor, Jane found it a natural transition to move into her other love...creating art, jewelry and other repurposed stuff and to do that in a store called Junque Drawer. Along with offering a wide variety of unusual products, customers are also drawn to her popular classes where they create self-expressive art.
"Starting in the 1960's - finding treasures and re-working them into jewelry, home adornments and wall art was emblazed into my being and it has been a phenomenally wonderful addiction every since. I combine typewriter keys, game pieces, trinkets, charms, parts of car license tags, optometrist lenses, watch parts, buttons, and pieces of whatever and put them together in a unique style to adorn yourself and your home."
Creative Project
Opening Doors - a creative journey of self-exploration

Jane will be leading us in our creative project at this retreat and we are so excited to see her inspire you! For those retreaters who stay on-site - your adventure will begin on Friday evening with personally curated journals and writing utensils. Jane will lead a self-reflection and brainstorming session all about how we impact and are impacted by the doors we encounter throughout our lives.

On Saturday, you'll build your own unique door to adorn you home and remind you of the doors you have come through and those that are still to come. Each participant will receive a 16" by 36" weathered wooden door and be treated to Jane's treasured "junque". Collected and curated through the years - you will be guided in making a meaningful piece of art with one-of-a-kind pieces.

Food, glorious food
We take meal time very seriously at a WestWind Retreat. We want to treat you to scrumptious foods that you may not get to enjoy at home.
We kick off the event with dinner the first night and then move into a scrumptious breakfast the next morning. Lunch on Saturday is on your own while you explore downtown and we will enjoy dinner together again that evening. Before you leave, we will send you off with a delightful breakfast and lots of smiles!
There will also be snacks and beverages available throughout your stay to refuel those creative engines. No one goes hungry and there will always be dessert.
**We will do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions during the event. You can share your needs with us on the questionnaire you receive at registration and we can talk it through.**

Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never done anything like this before! Are you sure I’ll enjoy it? It can be intimidating to join in on an activity with others you don’t know, but we can testify that there is something special that happens when creative people join together. There is a willingness to share ideas and a graciousness that is hard to explain. In the end, the worst that can happen is that you get a weekend away with good food and dedicated time to read a book with a hot beverage in your hand. Sounds like a wager you’d be willing to take, right?
Can I reserve a private room? This retreat has the option for one private room. Please contact Janell if you would prefer a room all to yourself and find out if space is available. Otherwise, we will make every possible effort to place you in a room with others who share your interests.
Can I bring my own craft projects to work on? For sure! Just expect that you may be in for some show-and-tell!
How many spaces are available? This retreat has space available for 11 total registrants (SIX overnight guests and FIVE Saturday-only participants).
My friends and I want to come together – can we do that? Yes!!! As long as there is space available, you can register a group of friends. You will receive a questionnaire to complete upon registration where you can indicate your roommate preferences.
Other questions? There are no silly questions! Write to us at janell@westwindcreative.com or call (913) 219-3333 for more details.
